The Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Youth, Anba Mussa, posted on his Twitter account
that he is now in London for medical treatment on account of a heart attack which
he suffered in the wake of the Sunday 11 December bombing at Boutrossiya
church in Cairo, which left 26 dead and 49 injured. Anba Moussa is already under
medical investigation which will resume after the weekend.
The Bishop, who despite his old age is a favourite with the younger generations of
Copts as well as the older one, has taken part in a commemoration ceremony held
at St Mary and St Abra’am church in Brighton in honour of the Boutrossiya
martyrs. Participating in the event was the eldest Coptic priest in the UK, Fr
Antonius Thabet, a number of clergy, and a large Coptic congregation. The
children, together with deacons, performed a number of praises and hymns while
holding candles and pictures of the martyrs.
Anba Moussa gave a word in which he offered his condolences to all, reminding
that the Coptic Church is “the Church of martyrs.”
He praised the concern displayed by the Copts in the Diaspora for their mother
Church in Egypt, and their and attachment to it.
