Representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Coptic Orthodox Church have held meetings in Cairo on 6 and 7 February.
The meetings were held in compliance with the agreement for further development and deepening of relations between the two Churches concluded by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria during the latter’s visit to Moscow in October 2014. The aim was to start high level of cooperation between the two Churches. The Russian delegation was formed of Bishop Gennady, Hieromonk Stefan, Mr Sergey Alferov, Mr Ilya Kashitsyn, and Fr Viktor Kulaga.
The Coptic Church was represented by Anba Serapion, Bishop of Los Angles; Anba Yulius, Bishop-General of Old Cairo churches; Fr Bolous Halim, Fr John Paul, as well as Dr Ishaq Agban and Ms Barbara Soliman.
Following their arrival on 5 February, the members of the Russian delegation headed to St Mark’s Cathedral in Abassiya, Cairo, where they visited the shrine of St Mark and St Athanasius of Alexandria (298 – 373).
