Montazah prosecution in Alexandria is investigating the case of a young man who hurled a Molotov cocktail at the church of the Holy Virgin and Mar-Girgis (St George) in the district of Ghabrial, Alexandria, on 16 May. The incident resulted in no casualties or damages. The only persons present in the church and outside it were the security and police guards.
The police were able to identify the attacker through the cameras on the church’s external walls. It was an air conditioning technician who had earlier undergone treatment for psychic disorder at a mental health hospital. The prosecution has ordered a medical examination of the young man to know whether or not he can be counted responsible for his deeds.
