Pope Tawadros II consecrated seven new bishops during Holy Mass yesterday.
Fr Epiphanius al-Maqari was consecrated abbott of at St Makarius Monastery in Wadi al-Natroun, under the name Anba Epiphanius; and Fr Maqar al-Baramousi from the Baramous monastery as Bishop of 10 Ramadan town and its vicinity in Sharqiya east of the Delta, under the name Anba Maqar. Fr Saleeb al-Samueli of Anba Samuel monastery was consecrated Anba Samuel, Bishop of Tamouh and its vicinity; and Fr Yu’annis al-Suriani of al-Surian monastery became Anba Yuhanna, Bishop of North Giza. Fr Zusima al-Antoni of the monastery of St Antony was consecrated Anba Zusima Bishop of Etfeeh, al-Saff, and their vicinity. Fr Yulius Ava-Mina of Mar-Mina monastery was consecrated as a general bishop in Cairo.
Fr Zakariya al-Suriani, was consecrated Bishop of 6 October and Uossim, and chose to take the name of Anba Dumadius after the late Anba Dumadius, who was Bishop of Giza and passed away in September 2011.
Pope Tawadros also seated three general bishops as diocese bishops. Bishop Danial was seated as Bishop of Maadi, Cairo; Anba Boutros as Bishop of Shebin al-Qanater; and Anba Mina as bishop of Mississauga and Vancouver in Canada. Anba Theodosius who was bishop of Giza became Bishop of central Giza. Giza, which had grown tremendously during the last three decades, was divided into four dioceses: Central Giza; North Giza; 6 October and Uossim; and Etfeeh and al-Saff.
