Anba Aghathon, bishop of Maghagha and Adawa in Minya, Upper Egypt, called for a three-day fast among his parishioners starting Monday to Wednesday of last week. Secretary of the bishopric Fr Ezra said the fast was a step of last resort, a plea to the Lord to solve the intractable problems the parishioners have for decades on end been having with the authorities on account of permits for restoring churches, affiliate buildings, of even building homes. Fr Ezra said that some problems could only be solved by means of prayer and fasting.
