In a conference on enhancing the Sunday School curriculum in the Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Tawadros II called for ‘opening the windows of creativity’. The two-day conference was held on Friday and Saturday 24 and 25 October at the Anafora retreat farm off the Cairo Alexandria Desert Road. Presiding over the conference was Anba Danial, Bishop of Maadi. A committee, headed by Anba Danial, formed for the purpose of designing new enhanced Sunday School curricula has so far finalised the curriculum for pre-schoolers as well as primary and preparatory school children.
Pope Tawadros talked of opening the windows of creativity. He explained that this meant respecting individual differences, bringing people together as part of the one church, and opening minds to other opinions. He stressed the difference between promoting creativity and ‘depositing knowledge’ in children’s minds, and called for using creative methods to instil the principles of Orthodox faith in children.
