In solidarity with the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks on the evening of Friday 13 November and the Russian plane rash over Sinai on 31 October, Egypt’s Giza pyramids will be illuminated with the colours of the flags of both France and Russia on Sunday 15 November night.
Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazoue and Minister of Antiquities, Mamdouh al-Damati will participate in the Sunday illumination event.
The pyramids will be lit up at 9:30 Cairo Local Time and the lights will alternate between the flags of Egypt and France, and Egypt and Russia.
The flags of France (blue, white and red), Russia (white, blue and red) and Egypt (red, white and black) will also be raised around the pyramids.
On Saturday, several buildings around the world were lit up with the tri-colours of the French flag including San Francisco’s Blue Hall, Sydney’s Opera House and Mexico City’s senate building.
Egyptian Facebook users have added the French flag to their profile pictures to display their sympathy and solidarity with the French people.
