The Media Minister Salah Abdel Maqsoud has allocated a budget of EGP7 million as a first instalment for a coproduction with the actors syndicate, of a silver screen film on the life of Prophet Mohamed.
A source at the media ministry said that both Adel Thabet, head of the production sector and the Minister are looking into the possibility of including other producers to fund the EGP75 million film, pointing out that the Radio and Television Union will contribute EGP15 million into the production as well as the garments stocks owned by the production sector.
According to Mohamed Ma’moun of the production sector, a documentary was planned on the life of Prophet Mohamed, but now that other producers have announced their intention to participate in the production, the idea has changed and a feature film will be produced instead of a documentary.
Workers in the production sector were the first to call for a State-financed production of a film on the life of Prophet Mohamed to counter the US-produced The Innocence of Muslims which disdained Islam and the Prophet Mohamed.
