Terror engulfed the Copts in the town of Rafah on the Egypt Gaza border in Sinai in the wake of a threat by unknown Islamist takfeeri individuals that the Copts should pack and leave town within 48 hours. Takfeeris are members of Islamist groups who pronounce anyone who does not hold their fundamentalist views as kafir, meaning apostate and as such deserving of a death sentence.
The threat came in the form of a message printed on a leaf of paper and thrown at the doorstep of a Coptic grocer by two masked men driving by in a motorcycle. The message read: “All Christians should go out of Sinai during the coming 48 hours at most.” The Coptic grocer handed the printed threat to the Rafah authorities who, according to a Church source in Rafah, have taken the matter very seriously and are working in coordination with the security and political authorities in Cairo.
The Church itself in Rafah has received no such threat, the source said.
