A man suspected of involvement in the deadly armed attack on busloads of Copts heading to St Samuel the Confessor Monastery in the Western Desert in Minya last May was killed during a police shootout on 9 August.
The Interior Ministry announced that the suspect was killed during a shootout with police forces in his hideout in the caves of the rugged mountains east of Qena some 600km south of Cairo.
The suspect is a member of a terrorist cell that spearheaded the suicide bombing in Cairo’s Boutrossiya church in December 2016, the suicide bombings on Palm Sunday last April in churches in Tanta and Alexandria, an attack on al-Naqab checkpoint in al-Wadi al-Gadid in January 2017, as well as the Minya attack on the Copts visiting the Minya monastery last May.
