The funeral of the young Coptic woman Mary Sameh George who was killed at the hands of the Muslim Brothers (MB) last Friday was held at the church of Mar-Girgis (St George) in Manshiyet al-Tahreer in Cairo.
Even though the official after-death report declared that George had been shot to death by MB demonstrators, together with a young female reporter and two young male passers-by, eye witnesses report another story. They insist George had been driving her car in front of the church when she was encountered by the MB demonstration. The demonstrators could see she was obviously Christian since she was unveiled and had hung a cross on the rear-view mirror in her car. They stopped her, pulled her out of the car and dragged her on the street, stabbed her repeatedly then shot her and put the car on fire. Father Moussa of Mar-Girgis’s confirmed the story to Watani.
It was later explained that the after-death report cited the cause of the death but not the details of the incident.
Crowds who gathered outside the church during the funeral held banners condemning terrorism and calling for national unity.
