Disappointment engulfed the Copts of Nag Hammadi as the judge of the Emergency State Security Court in Qena last Sunday pronounced al-Qorashi Abul-Haggag and Hindawi Sayed Mohamed innocent of collaborating to kill six Copts and one Muslim on Christmas Eve on 6 January 2010. Haggag and Hindawi had been in the car with the main culprit Hammam al-Kamouni who opened fire from a moving car on the Copts as they left church following Midnight Mass—Copts celebrate Christmas on 7 January. Further down the road Kamouni disembarked and shot two Copts who were driving home after Mass with their Muslim friend, killing all three. His two accomplices waited in the car and, according to court records, egged him on during the shooting.
Kamouni was handed a death sentence.
