The Presidency of Egypt has issued the following statement concerning the recent against Copts which took place in the Minya village of al-Karam:
“The Presidency is following closely the measures taken with respect to the sad events which occurred in a Minya governorate village. President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has instructed all concerned State apparatuses to take the necessary steps to preserve public order, protect people and property within the rule of law, hold accountable those who ignited these clashes and refer them to the competent judicial authorities.
“The President has also instructed the governor of Minya, in coordination with the Armed Forces, to repair and restore the properties damaged in these clashes within one month as of today at the expense of the State.
“The President reassures that such sad incidents do not reflect by any means the deep-rooted traditions and customs of the Egyptian people who have set the foundations of human civilisation and fought to uphold the values of peace as one united fabric since the dawn of history. This made their unity and national alignment a role model of national genius and a true guarantee of our country’s endurance. The great women of Egypt will forever remain an example of sacrifice and hard work towards the empowerment of the nation; upholding their rights and dignity is our duty not only from a legal and constitutional perspective but also from a humanitarian and national perspective.
God save Egypt and her people.”
