The Copts of the village of Badraman in Minya, Upper Egypt, have again sent official complaints, this time to the new the Interior Minister Major General Ahmed Gamal Eddin with a demand to rescue them from the outlaw Ali Hussien, famously nicknamed Holako, a name which sends shivers down spines. Since January 2011 Hussien has, through his terrorist activity, turned the lives of Badraman Copts into living hell. He has forced them to pay him monthly tribute; those who refuse do so at their own and their families’ risk. The Copt Hamdy Khalil Seweiha and his son were murdered because they dared submit official complaints about him; two Muslims who supported the Copts in their complaints were also murdered.
Many Coptic families had to leave Badraman for fear for the safety of their children; Hussein’s gang is known to rape women, in many cases while their men were beaten up, tied, and made to look on. The gang also kidnaps children and returns them only upon receiving heavy ransom money.
Hussein has also seized land from its rightful owners while they stood helpless at his viciousness. He laid hands on a plot of agricultural land belonging to the Copt Kamal Iskandar Youssef; sending off the people who rent and cultivated it; and erected several buildings on the land. Building on agricultural land is a very legal serious offence in Egypt, yet neither the police nor the military have stood up to Hussein.
Hussien, who is 34 years old, is still running free despite the all the offences he committed including four murder crimes. He is currently building himself a home on the border of the village, under the eyes and noses of the police who either can or will do nothing to catch him.
