The most recent fatwa, Islamic legal edict, which was issued by the Fatwa
House a couple of days ago allows Muslims to wish non-Muslims well on the
occasion of their religious feasts, on condition that the language used to
congratulate non-Muslims does not go against the Islamic faith. The fatwa
proceeded to explain that Islam does not prohibit Muslims from being good
neighbours with non-Muslims or from having cordial relationships with them.
This fatwa was issued following a statement that was released by the head of
al-Assala Salafi Party calling on Muslims not to congratulate Christians on the
occasion of Christmas, adding that there is a ‘psychological barrier’ between
Muslims and Christians.
