According to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, the Egyptian Embassy in London has received a limestone stele that had been smuggled out of Egypt after being stolen from Karnak Temple. The ancient artifact was displayed at an auction house in London.
Its return, a Foreign Ministry statement said, witnesses to the cooperation between the ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Antiquities, especially in efforts to retrieve Egyptian antiquities that had been smuggled outside the country.
The statement extended thanks to all UK bodies that cooperated and coordinated with the Egyptian embassy in London to restore the precious artefact.
