The antiquities police authorities at the Port Said port have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a number of specimens of fossilised trees out of Egypt to China. The trees are of priceless historical, archaeological, and cultural value.
A high calibre committee was formed to check the auhtenticity of the trees and assess their value. It then recommended that the trees should be handed to the Geological Museum in Cairo.
