On Thursday 23 June the magnificent 18th century Islamic house of Bayt al-Sinnari which acts as the Cairo venue for the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) will hold an exhibition under the name “Egypt 1956…Points of view”. The event is jointly organised by the BA and Sedag Centre. The exhibition celebrates a year full of important political and military incidents such as the nationalisation of the Suez Canal by Egyptian President Gamal Abdel-Nasser and the consequent Suez War. The exhibition houses more than 40 paintings and pictures that include texts, maps, newspapers, stamps, advertising and films posters; and some visual and audio documents. It is based on the resources of the BA and the documentary database of Sedag as well as the resources of the American University in Cairo, the archive of the Dominican Fathers in Cairo, and UNESCO.
The exhibition runs till 4 July after which it moves to Alexandria then to Francophone and Egyptian schools, and later in the year to the Egyptian Cultural Centre in Paris.
