Yesterday Saturday 16 May, the Heliopolis Library in Cairo marked Africa Day ahead of its annual date of 25 May. A large number of State officials, members of the diplomatic corps, intellectuals and businessmen took part in the event which was organised by the Heliopolis Society in collaboration with the Black Egypt movement.
The celebration featured dance performances by an Ethiopian group of the ‘Oromo’ tribe, an ethnic group that lives in Ethiopia, northern Kenya, and parts of Somalia. A choir formed of members of the Heliopolis Association and Cairo University students performed Sudanese and Egyptian songs, and an exhibition of African heritage was held.
