The Egyptian short film Rahhal (Traveller) won best script prize in the Global University Film Awards held in Hong Kong this month.
The Egyptian film was in competition with ten other films; and it represented Egypt among 1800 short film from 100 countries that participated in the festival.
The seven-minute film, directed by Zahra Ashraf, Ahmed Ra’fat and Yara Magdy, was produced in 2017 by the Radio and Television Section of Faculty of Arts, Helwan University. It tracks the history of a book’s journey since it is produced, and through its sale in street stalls and on pavements; its movement from one house to another; and from one hand to another. The actor Ahmed Amin was narrator of the film.
GUFA builds on the success of the Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival (GCU), which was initiated by the Academy of Film, School of Communication of Hong Kong Baptist University in 2002. GCU is well recognised as an iconic university film event that fosters a collaborative relationship among film professionals, scholars and students in Hong Kong and those in the Greater China region.
Traveller also participated in Alexandria Festival for Short Films and was praised by all attendants especially for being the first work the director and crew.
