The paper was for decades considered among the liberal publications in Egypt, which worked to spread enlightenment and critical thought. It was published on a very tight budget, using inexpensive paper and printing techniques. It closed for the lack of the petty sum of some EGP7,000 (the equivalent of some USD1,100).
