The famous Suez Canal Qubba (Dome) lighthouse on the northern tip of the Canal in Port Said, which dates back to the opening of the Canal in 1869 and is today managed by the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), will be turned into an international museum, announced Adel al-Ghadban, Governor of Port Said, in a press statement. The prospective museum, General Ghadban said, will tell the history of the Suez Canal and will highlight the struggle of Port Said’s people during the three wars of 1956, 1967, and 1973.
Established in 1860, Port Said is one of the three cities located on the Suez Canal. The other two are Suez on the southern tip of the Canal, and Ismailiya along the canal bank midway through its course.
