The Cairo Opera Ballet is presenting over four nights in Cairo and Alexandria the
Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet Cinderella, directed by Erminia Kamel, with music by
the Cairo Opera Orchestra conducted by David Crescenzi. The Cairo performances
were on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 May; the Alexandria performances will be on
Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June at the Sayed Darwish Theatre.
Cinderella was composed by Prokofiev between 1940 and 1944, to a scenario by
Nikolai Volkov. It is notable for its jubilant music, lush scenery, and for the comic
double-roles of the stepsisters.
