To mark the opening of the new Suez Canal, Egypt has issued a new commemorative gold coin.

Designed by Yasser Saad Eddin, one side of the coin depicts the sea and two giant ships sailing it, to a backdrop of the globe. Inscribed along the circumference in the Arabic and English languages is the phrase: New Suez Canal From Egypt To The Entire World.

The other side of the coin carries the name of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the One Pound denotation.

The number of coins issued is 21,000; a collection of them has been fitted into medals. They will be presented as gifts to the prominent guests who will participate in the opening of the new Suez Canal.
