On a televised interview with TEN satellite channel, Medhat al-Sibai, head of the Central Department of Agricultural Pest Control said that the Ministry of Agriculture is on high alert to confront swarms of locusts currently on Egypt’s eastern borders, before they move into the country. Locusts are a severe threat to Egyptian agriculture since the voraciously devour greenery and crops.
Mr Sibai explained that locusts have to be battled before they can enter Egypt, and that the Agriculture Ministry twice a year sprays anti-locust pesticides as a preventive measure.
