Last week the world of journalism and historical studies lost one of the greatest Egyptian historians of modern history, the renown Dr. Younan Labib Rizk who passed away last Tuesday at the age of 74.
Dr Rizk was born in 1933 and graduated from the Faculty of Arts in 1955.
He held the positions of Professor of History in Ain Shams University and the Head of Al-Ahram History Studies Centre. He was also a member of the Shura Council, the Specialized National Councils, the Arab Historians Union and the Supreme Council of the Press.
He was one of the advocates and supporters of the nationality of Taba against Israel. He wrote and published more than 50 articles and 20 books dealing with Egypt’s modern history as well as his weekly article ‘ A Diwan of Contemporary Life’ in Al-Ahram.
Rizk received the Mubarak Award for Social Sciences in 2004 and the State Prize of Appreciation in 1995.
