Egypt’s first shipment of medical assistance, including six haemodialysis devices and two water purification units, arrived in Burundi on 15 February.

Egyptian Ambassador in Bujumbura Abir Radwan said the medical equipment would be used in the two renal dialysis centres that will be established by Egypt in Burundi at a total cost of EGP2 million.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said that over 7 million cases of malaria were recorded in Burundi between January and October 2017; Burundi has a population of 11.5 million. In many cases, patients who survive Malaria later suffer kidney failure.
