During the celebration held on 21March to mark Mothers Day in Egypt; President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi honoured 42 women as ‘Mothers of the Year’, in a ceremony held at Cairo. Among the mothers honoured was Maggie Gobran, famous as Mama Maggie, who does monumental work with Egypt’s garbage collector community through her NGO charity Stephen’s Children. Mama Maggie thanked President Sisi and offered him a gift. She said: “I will carry on my mission with the children living in poorest areas”.

Mother Maggie told Watani that she appreciates that the honour comes within the framework of the State’s eagerness to support development and charity work.

Attending the ceremony were Egypt’s first lady Intissar al-Sisi, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, al-Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Dr Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, Pope Tawadros II, senior officials, as well as members of the National Council for Women.
