“Because I am a Father” is an exhibition of photographs from Egypt and Sweden, which portrays the universal role of fatherhood, and promotes cultural exchange and gender equality.
#EgyptianDads photos show examples of Egyptian fathers who share the responsibility of taking care of their children and playing an active role in their daily lives. The exhibition is held by the National Council for Women, and aims to highlight the stories of fathers who share childcare responsibility with their partners, with the aim of nurturing a more gender-equal generation, with stable and happy homes for a more productive society.
#SwedishDads photos are based on portraits of fathers who choose to stay home with their children for at least six months. Photographer Johan Bävman examines why these fathers have chosen to stay home with their children, the experiences it gave them, and how their relationship with both their partners and their children changed as a result. The exhibition aims to show the effects of gender equality in parenting on both individuals and the community.
The exhibition was launched by the Swedish Embassy in Cairo, is hosted by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and runs till 28 May. It had been earlier held in Cairo, in October 2018.
