With the aim of attracting tourists back to Egypt, the United Nations Development Programme has teamed up with the international firm Wild Guanabana and with Egyptian sportsman Amr Samra—the first Egyptian to climb Mount Everest—to launch an initiative to raise environmental awareness and enhance collective responsibility vis-à-vis the environment and sustainable development.
The initiative’s first move was an endeavour to clean up Wadi Degla national park which lies to the south of Cairo. Leading the volunteer effort was Mr Samra and a host of public figures, businessmen, and visual and expressive artists.
