Egypt’s pyramids are among over 30 worldwide landmarks that lit up in green on World Environment Day celebrated annually on 5 June. Other landmarks included the Empire State Building, the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Niagara Falls, the City Hall in Venice and Panama’s multi-faceted Biomuseo, and the world’s tallest building: Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.
World Environment Day promotes the vast benefits that could be gained through nutrition and health improvement, also through mental and physical health which, in general, can be realised through climate stability and a cleaner environment for humankind.
The theme of this year was “Connecting People to Nature”, which aims to encourage people to enjoy and protect nature, and appreciate its beauty and importance in the sustainability of the planet.
The United Nations celebrates World Environment Day on 5 June every year since 1972. It is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the world environment.
