The Korean Culture Centre in Egypt held on 16 September a special event to celebrate “Chuseok: Korea’s harvest festival”. Korean culture lovers as well as the centre visitors all eagerly participated.
Chuseok, which is held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, consists of thanksgiving services in which newly harvested crops and fruits are offered to the ancestral spirits. Generally held to be as important as the Lunar New Year’s Day, Chuseok is also one of the two annual occasions when all the family members have a homecoming.
During the mid-autumn holiday of Chuseok (15th day of the 8th lunar month), families gather together and make songpyeon (half-moon shaped rice patties).
