Catherine Gendre, Head of Cairo Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and Moamena Kamel, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), have signed five agreements for five joint projects to be implemented in 2017.
“The signing of the agreements is a continuation of the fruitful cooperation with the ERC in areas concerning providing humanitarian aid to the victims of violence and emergency situations, and in promoting the International Humanitarian Law (IHL),” said Ms Gendre.
The five agreements focus on projects related to strengthening the capacities of the ERC in communication and outreach, in addition to its preparedness and responsiveness to emergencies. The ICRC and the ERC work as well on promoting IHL among the relevant actors. They also cooperate in joint aid operations.
The ICRC is an impartial, neutral, independent organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland, the mission of which is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.
The ICRC has delegations in many countries, including Egypt where it has been working for over 100 years.
