The UK Consul in Alexandria, Caroline Alcock paid a visit to the Alexandria al-Nur (The Light) Girls charity which cares for blind girls and young women, and which offers special care to autistic blind girls. Ms Alcock shared with the girls, staff, and administration celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the charity.
The famous al-Nur choir gave a performance on which Ms Alcock commented saying it proved the girls had not only talent but also exceptional academic training. She visited the handcraft centre of the charity and saw their products of rugs, leatherwork and bamboo goods. She also saw the centre where they produce publications in Braille for all the visually impaired community in Egypt.
The UK embassy in Cairo and consulate in Alexandria are conducting a joint programme for enabling persons with special needs. A documentary will be produced in Alexandria to raise awareness on the needs of persons with disability.
