The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Cairo held the first Bi-monthly Media briefing for January 2015 in which the UNIC Director Khawla Mattar launched the new UNIC website. Mattar urged journalists to follow the Centre’s facebook page and twitter account.
The Director also briefed journalists on UN priorities for 2015, in particular, the UN Secretary-General’s global development agenda referring to the advance version of his so-called “synthesis report,” Report: “The Road to Dignity by 2030: Ending Poverty, Transforming All Lives and Protecting the Planet” which according to Mr Ban Ki-Moon will guide negotiations for a new global agenda centred on people and the planet, and underpinned by human rights.
The Bi-monthly briefing also focused on the World Humanitarian Summit 2016. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Representative, Nihal Said, briefed Journalists on the preparations for the summit since the Secretary-General announced his initiative to set a future agenda that is inclusive, transparent and accountable. Said added that for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the Regional Consultation will take place in Amman, Jordan, from 3-5 March 2015.
The consultation will be hosted by the Government of Jordan, and is being guided by a Regional Steering Group (RSG) that is co-chaired by the League of Arab States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and includes representatives of the different stakeholders that are part of the World Humanitarian Summit process.
