According to a protocol recently signed between the Egyptian Weightlifting Union and the Japanese Embassy in Cairo, the Japanese government will provide Egypt with weightlifting tools and equipment. Minister of Youth and Sports Khalid Abdel-Aziz, attended the signing of the protocol by Mr Takehiro Kagawa, Japan’s Ambassador to Egypt, and Mr Abdel Atty member of board of directors at the Egyptian Weightlifting Union. Ms Yuriko Koiaki, President of Japan Weightlifting Association (JWA) and Member of Japanese Parliament; Ambassador Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister of Egyptian Foreign Ministry; and Brigadier Ibrahim al-Kholy, Vice President of the Egyptian Weightlifting Union attended the ceremony.
Abdel-Aziz thanked the Japanese government for its support to the Egyptian Weightlifting Union in the frame of preparing for Rio de Janeiro Olympics. He pointed out that Egypt is a candidate to win a medal in weightlifting in the Olympics through the player Mohammed Ihab who is placed second in World Weightlifting Championships.
Ms Yuriko Koiaki applauded the cooperation between Egypt and Japan in various fields, including sports. She hoped Egyptian players would benefit from the tools and equipment provided by Japan, and wished them and their Japanese couterparts good luck in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
