The Indian Embassy in Cairo is celebrating its second World Yoga Day on 21 June. The day was acknowledged by the UN general assembly, on the support of 177 countries.
Sanjay Bhattacharya, India’s Ambassador to Cairo says that Yoga championship is a unique sport because the competitor is in self-challenge. Last year’s championship, he says, was quite a success with the participation of some 450 individuals. This year the championship will extend over three days in three Egyptian cities. The first be 21 June at al-Azhar Park in Cairo; the second in Ismailiya on 23 June; and the third in Alexandria on the 25th.
Mr Bhattacharya says that Yoga has become an increasingly popular sport in Egypt with no shortage of teachers, which further encourages the Indian Embassy to work on spreading it. Anyone willing to participate in the first Yoga protocol may register. Other types of meditation will also be available after the initial protocol.
A photography competition open to all ages will be held, Mr Bhattacharya says. All participating photos will be posted online, and the winning photo will be on display on the big screen at al-Azhar Park on Yoga Day.
