The Indian Embassy in Cairo has celebrated International Yoga Day in Egypt. The celebration started on Wednesday 20 June with an event held at al-Hurriya Park in Gezira, Cairo.
This is the fourth year in succession that Yoga Day has been marked in Egypt. Indian Charge d’Affaires Vinod Bahade has supervised this year’s celebration.
“Yoga, the precious gift of ancient Indian tradition,” Bahade said in a press conference, provides a holistic approach to physical and mental health. It is widely practiced in Egypt, a large number of people participate in the event.”
Friday 22 June saw a yoga event held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, and another on 23 June at Nadi al-Mawani in Ismailiya.
The United Nations General Assembly in 2015 acknowledged International Yoga Day on the 21 June, with the support of 177 co-sponsoring countries.
The assembly stated in its resolution that yoga provided an integrated style for health and happiness, and stressed the importance of increasing awareness on the benefits of yoga around the world.
