Egypt Post Authority has handed over to the Ministry Antiquities 36 pieces of antiquity that had been with the post customs authority in Cairo. The antiquities were seized by the archaeological office at Egypt Post during several attempts to smuggle them out to a number of Arab countries over the last few years.
According to Ahmed al-Rawi, head of the central administration for archaeological units in Egyptian ports, said the antiquities seized include Greek and Roman coins, Ottoman and Allawi banknotes, marriage contracts dating back to the beginning of the 20th century, as well as original photographs of the royal family and senior State officials.
On 19 March 2018, the court issued a decision to hand the pieces over to the Ministry of Antiquities until legal proceedings are completed.
