Anglicans meet in
Pope Shenouda III, patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, last weekend received the Archbishops of the Anglican Communion worldwide who were in
In thanking Pope Shenouda for his welcome, Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams noted the significance of the meeting taking place in the city where many of the core doctrines of the Christian faith were formed and where the seeds of the Christian monastic movement were sown in the third century.
Pope Shenouda, whose church is experiencing a resurgence of monks, with more than 20 communities of at least 100 monks each, told the Primates that bishops had a special responsibility to guide their people on the path of holiness and that engaging with the young was particularly important.
Arabic music
The seventh round of the festival of Arabic music perspectives, organised by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, was recently held at the Cairo Opera House. With 23 music writers from five Arab countries participating, this round was dedicated to the honour of the Egyptian 20th century composer Gamal Abdel-Rehim who died 20 years ago. A symposium was held to discuss his compositions and their impact on the modernisation of Arabic symphonic music.
