The
Gospel of St Luke informs that, when the Lord Jesus Christ was born in
Bethlehem of Judea: “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the
heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on
earth peace, goodwill towards men.” (Luke 2: 13, 14).
At
this point in time, and amidst the events that have been engulfing
throughout the last year, we are in dire need of activating the concepts of
peace and goodwill. Only peace and goodwill can carry
the current transitional phase, until it regains its stability and security,
and ingrains in its value scheme the concepts of equality and justice.
During
this blessed Christmas season, it gives me pleasure to offer sincere good
wishes to all Egypt’s Copts, to the head of the Coptic Church His Holiness Pope
Shenouda III and to all the archbishops, bishops and clergy of the Church, as
well as to all the heads, clergy, and congregations of the Catholic and
Evangelical churches in Egypt. I ask the Lord that the memory of the glorious
Nativity would fill our hearts with peace and goodwill.
