Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly was presented with the St Catherine Order of the First Class by Fr Mikhail, deputy to the Abbot of the 5th-century Monastery of St Catherine in Sinai. Dr Madbouly was on a visit to the region of St Catherine in South Sinai to follow up on a EGP40 million development project there. He visited the monastery where he was warmly received by the monks, and treated to a guided tour of the churches, library, and landmarks of the place.
Fr Mikhail delivered a speech in which he welcomed Dr Madbouly and praised the President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi’s concern about St Catherine’s.
For his part, Dr Madbouly expressed his gratitude for the warm reception he was given. He was accompanied by a number of senior figures, among them Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anani,and Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad.
Following the monastery visit, Dr Madbouly and the accompanying delegation inspected the area around the monastery, which lies within the nature reserve of St Catherine. They also listened to the history of the reserve.
