The speaker of the People’s Assembly, the lower house of Egypt’s Parliament, Saad al-Katatni announced the final list of the members of the constituent assembly. He declared that
The speaker of the People’s Assembly, the lower house of Egypt’s Parliament, Saad al-Katatni announced the final list of the members of the constituent assembly. He declared that the newly elected constituent assembly will start its work some time next week. Katatani said that the final lists includes 33 members of eight parties, seven women, seven youth, ten Islamic scholars, eight Copts among whom four represent the Church and four public figures, 28 constitutional scholars, 10 writers and intellectuals, seven heads of professional syndicates, 30 university professors, four representatives of workers syndicates and peasant unions, and one representative of Egyptians abroad.
Among the 100 members of the constituent assembly, 67 are Islamists; 55 of them belong to Islamist movements of whom 32 are MB members; and 12 are Islamist figures that do not belong to any official movement.
Katatni announced that a website www.dostor.gov.eg, has been launched for Egyptians to post suggestions for the constitution.
