As a tribute for the genuine efforts of President Hosni Mubarak in pushing forward the peace process and eliminating the threat of nuclear weapons from the Middle East, the Hiroshima Peace Association has chosen to honour Egypt as a representative of the Middle East by granting it the Peace Stone.
The Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni, will place the stone in the garden of the Cairo Opera House in a celebration under the auspices of Mrs Suzanne Mubarak on 20 April. Several international peacemakers will be invited to attend the occasion.
The Hiroshima Peace Association is a Japanese NGO that was established in 1991 with the aim of spreading peace among nations and fighting violence by means of cultural and intellectual dialogue. The association presents the Hiroshima Stone—part of the remains of the ruin due to the nuclear bombing—to countries that play indelible roles in peace processes.
