In an unprecedented turnout that slightly exceeded 50 per cent, 93.39 per cent of the Egyptians outside Egypt voted for Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi as Egypt’s new president. Sisi’s competitor Hamdeen Sabahi, a leftist politician, won 5.41 of the vote, and the invalid votes amounted to 1.91 per cent

The results were announced this afternoon by the Supreme Elections Commission, and sum up the vote in the poll stations in 124 Egyptian embassies and consulates around the world.
Egyptians at home will head to the ballot boxes next Monday and Tuesday, 26 and 27 May, to cast their votes.
