Pope Tawadros II is home in Cairo following a two-week pastoral visit that started 11 May to Germany and Zurich. The Pope visited Coptic congregations and churches in Düsseldorf, Zurich, Bitburg, Allen’s, Unna, and Trier. He said Mass, consecrated new churches, met clergy and congregations, answered queries posed by the Copts, and attended performances they held in his honour. He also met German and Swiss officials, honoured Coptic and Catholic figures who had exerted effort to help local Coptic congregations acquire places to worship in, and visited the Cathedral of St Peter in Trier where Bishop Stephan Ackermann presented him with a reliquary including relics of St Helena.
The Pope arrived at Cairo Airport last evening, 25 May.
