Yesterday, Wednesday 23 October, Pope Tawadros II paid a visit to those who had been injured in the shooting on Sunday 20 October in front of the church of the Holy Virgin and the Archangel Michael in Warraq, Giza.
The shooting, conducted by two masked men on motorcycle who opened fire on a crowd that had been attending a wedding at the church, left four dead including two girls aged four and 12, and 17 injured.
The Pope visited the injured—Copts and Muslims—at the military hospital in Maadi, and prayed for them.
In his weekly Wednesday sermon in the evening, Pope Tawadros thanked those who offered their condolences to the Coptic Church. Heading the list was President Adly Mansour, his First Deputy and Defence Minister Colonel General Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, and Interior Minister Muhammad Ibrahim. The Pope said the Church was praying for those who lost their lives and for their families, for the injured, and for those who committed the crime.
“The Lord knows what is in the heart and mind of all men and women,” Pope Tawadros said. “And He alone can give help and guidance.”
