The papal secretary Anba Yu’annis said that four Copts have died because of the severe overcrowding at the St Mark’s Cathedral in Abassiya where the mummified body of Pope Shenouda III has been seated on throne of St Mark, as is traditional for Coptic popes who die. Some 50 have been injured, and five children have been reported lost. Anba Yu’annis could not give any details concerning the persons who lost their lives, but said that the cathedral will be closed to visitors till the funeral service on Tuesday morning.
