Anba Kyrillos, the Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Milan, has withdrawn his candidacy for the upcoming papal elections, as announced today by Anba Pola, Bishop of Tanta and spokesman for the Holy Synod.
Anba Pola described Anba Kyrillos’s withdrawal as a ‘great loss’, especially given that Anba Kyrillos is known as a highly spiritual
person.
Anba Pola pointed out that the Church’s nominations’ committee which is currently in session at Anba Bishoi Monastery in the Western Desert, is working to shortlist the 16 candidates to five, through an arduous vetting process.
