Video footage that featured the voice of Pope Tawadros II asking the congregation to pray for him and the Church went viral on social media. The one-minute-long footage was posted on the official page of the spokesperson of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
Under the title: “I hope you pray for me and for the Church, Pope Tawadros II”, the footage showed scenes of the Pope, bishops and congregation praying.
“I’d like you to pray for me always,” Pope Tawadros told the Copts. “The patriarch needs a lot of prayer; not only the official prayers said in the litanies during Mass and on many occasions. During this time we need special prayers. It is a hard time when the Church, her leader and administration need lots of prayer from the congregation. I particularly need your prayers to support me day and night.”
Bloggers responded by praying for the Lord to lead and sustain their wise, loving shepherd.
